Fly Fishing in Alaska

There is no thrill like casting a fly in a remote Alaskan river and feeling the pull of a wild rainbow at the end of your line, except perhaps repeating the experience so many times that you lose count. There are few places in the world that offer so many opportunities for world-class fly fishing as Alaska. Whether you want to float the Kenai in a drift boat and cast into the turquoise waters of this famous river, or explore the remote and wild Alaska Peninsula and Katmai National Park, Alaska Vacation Store can create a custom fishing package for any budget.

In addition to fly fishing for rainbows, Alaska offers great fly fishing opportunities for many species, including all of the Pacific salmon species, as well as arctic grayling and cutthroat trout.

Alaska Vacation Store arranges guided trips for all of these that include transportation, guides, lodging and other activities. Here are just some of the possibilities:

Alaska Peninsula trout and salmon trip: You’ll fly into a remote fishing lodge, where you will spend the night each night. During the days you’ll travel by float plane to some of Alaska’s premier trout and salmon streams. Because your lodge flies you to the best fishing locations each day, rather than relying on good local fishing, you’re almost guaranteed a world-class fishing experience every day of your stay. In addition to great fishing, you will enjoy spectacular scenery, great food, comfortable lodging and world-famous Alaskan hospitality.

Kenai River trout float: The turquoise-blue Kenai River flows out of Kenai Lake, through miles of beautiful scenery and spectacular trout waters. Your guide will take you by drift boat in search of wild rainbows. The scenery and experience is truly spectacular, and these trips are road-accessible, which makes them very affordable. We offer great lodging and other activities as a part of our Kenai River drift packages, all of which are completely customizable to meet your particular desires.

Grayling fishing: Arctic Grayling are available throughout Alaska, and many streams and lakes do not require guides. We have put together a number of custom packages that were designed to take our guests to some of the best grayling fishing in Alaska. In addition, there are some guided trips available for people that prefer a more structured experience.

Sockeye salmon: Sockeye or red salmon return to many Alaskan rivers in great numbers, and about the only effective way to fish for them is by fly. Reds are very popular with Alaskans, and there are numerous places across the Alaska that offer nonstop action. The key to successful sockeye fishing is being there when the fish are in. While runs are reasonably predictable, being a day early or a day late is often the difference between fishing and catching. We are very familiar with the major sockeye runs across Alaska, and regularly plan sockeye trips, though we often will combine them with other fishing to maximize the flexibility of your fishing options.

These are just a few of the possible fly fishing adventures that we can put together for you. We would love to speak with you about your particular fishing expedition. Our travel and fishing consultants are available to put together your custom fly fishing adventure. Give us a call to start your plans today.
