Offers information for Alaska tours, vacation tours and other eco tourism based traval. The Killik begins in the mountains north of the Arctic Divide in
Gates of the Arctic National Park. From shallow, swift, rocky origins, the
river changes its personality several times along its journey. We through
a wide U-shaped, mountain-rimmed valley, meandering through big oxbows, white
sand dunes and ancient glacial lakes, and pausing to observe caribou, grizzly
bears, foxes, and the occasional moose. This is a major migratory route for
the 460,000-strong Western Arctic caribou herd. Later, we dodge boulders and
willow- thicketed islets, as we careen toward the Colville River, pausing
to climb ridge tops, where earliest people have left signs of their
passage. Wild and remote. Many of the river journeys include
one or more day hikes. No previous experience is necessary. Some of the River
Journeys include dayhikes or multiple day trekking. Hiking and Base Camp:
Hiking along established trails or hiking from a Base Camp are a more leisurely
way to discover wilderness than backpacking or trekking.

Offers alaska travel tours to southeast alaska. Flowing
from remnant glaciers on Mt. Igikpak, the Noatak meanders 450 miles through
the largest undisturbed wilderness in North America. Ten thousand years
ago, ancestral Eskimos traversed the valley, leaving only scattered remains
of camps. We begin in the upper Noatak valley in Gates of the Arctic
National Park, paddling from the headwaters, with day hikes into the mountains.
We leave the Central Brooks Range and reach far into the western Brooks Range,
across treeless tundra, and briefly, back into the boreal forest, before reaching
Lower Noatak Canyon, as we through Noatak National Preserve.
The 460,000 caribou in the Western Arctic herd migrate through the valley
on their way to summer range on the North Slope tundra, along with muskoxen,
grizzlies, wolves and foxes. If you want to experience the spaciousness and
grandeur of one of premier Wild & Scenic rivers, join us for
this extraordinary adventure. 2002 Dates: August 10-23 Offers
